Leadership points

When I try to take the knight with me as I explore the map it tells me I do not have enough leadership points... In the lower corner of the screen it reads : "Leadership Points 0/504" So, how expactly do I gain leadership points ?

You have 504 leadership points. Each unit has a leadership point cost.
You need to teleport your hero to town and take the army from there.
My advice would be to go through the tutorial (the ? sign near the fullscreen button above the resources display), it's going to shed more light.
